ロイ&トム滞在成果展示 “Hibernation -冬眠-”

トムとロイはイスラエル出身のイギリス・グラスゴー拠点にしたビジュアルアーティストです。今回の展示は2人のコラボレーションワークとなります。
9月末から天神山アートスタジオに滞在し始め、アイヌの歴史、素材文化、儀式についてリサーチを続けている彼らは、遠方にも足を伸ばし、秋分セレモニーやアイヌ文化博物館、資料館、そして道内の大きなアイヌコミュニティーが集まる阿寒湖まりも祭を訪れ、見聞を深めました。
この展示は彫刻、運動音要素、エコプリントから構成されます。彫刻はトムとロイがクマに遭遇したときの想像を表現します。また地元北海道に広く伝えられている神話やクマに関するアイヌ信仰に影響を受けています。
エコプリントは、天神山緑地とその周辺の落ち葉、阿寒湖まりも祭を訪れた時に収集した阿寒湖の水から制作します。
During their time at Tenjinyama Studio, Tom and Roi have researched Ainu history, material culture and ceremonies. They have visited an Autumn Equinox ceremony, travelled to several Ainu culture promotion centres, and attended the Ainu’s Annual Marimo Festival in Lake Akan, which brings together all of the large Ainu communities in Hokkaido.
The exhibition consists of a collaborative sculpture, a kinetic sound element and Eco prints. The sculpture depicts Tom and Roi’s imagined encounter with a bear, and is inspired by local popular culture references, mythical stories, and Ainu beliefs concerning bears.
The prints were made using Autumn leaves from Tenjinyama park and its surrounding area, and water from Lake Akan which were collected during Roi and Tom’s visit there for the Ainu’s annual Marimo Festival.

イギリスのグラスゴーに拠点を置くビジュアルアーティスト。ベツァルエルアカデミー、アート＆デザイン2010年卒業。グラスゴー スクール オブ アート2015年修了。エレツイスラエルミュージアム（テルアビブ、イスラエル）、デイビットオーズリーミュージアム（インディアナ州、アメリカ）サムシングスペシアス（オークランド、アメリカ）、Pokornaギャラリー（プラハ、チェコ共和国）にて展示。
ロイの作品は、”人種、国家、州”によって定義されている現代社会の特異性を、初期の文明の”人類”という定義に再接続させる。彼の好奇心は、記憶の脆弱性、時間の性質、空間的リズム、動きなど多岐に渡りる。これらを彫刻と映像の表現に移行させ、音響は背景音ではなく、それ自体が具体的な要素として現れる。
最新の個展“Don’t forget to bring me back”は、2017年4月にグラスゴープロジェクトルームに展示され、グラスゴービジュアルアーティスト＆クラフトメーカー賞16/17を受賞。 また、Holy Waveというグループ展をGlasgow international 2018の一環として企画し、ロイの根幹にせまる課題である、現代的な文脈である崇拝の対象と儀式に触れるものとなった。
Roi Carmeli is a visual artist based in Glasgow, UK. He Graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem (2010) and a Master of Fine Arts with Merit from the Glasgow School of Art, Glasgow (2015). Roi’s work has been exhibited at The Eretz Israel Museum, Tel Aviv, Israel, The David Owsley Museum of Art, Indiana USA, Some Thing Spacious, Oakland, USA and the Pokorna Gallery, Prague, The Czech Republic. In his work, Roi links present times to early civilizations, reconnecting humans and bridging the modern day singularities defined by race, nations, or states. His curiosity at the fragility of memory, the nature of time, spatial rhythm, and movement is conveyed through the use of sculpture and audiovisual narratives. He distinctively uses sound not as background, but as a tangible material in and of itself. Roi’s latest solo show, Don’t forget to bring me back, was exhibited at the Glasgow Project Room April 2017 and was awarded
Glasgow
Visual artist & Craft maker award 16/17. Roi curated a group show as part of Glasgow international 2018, named Holy Wave that touched on the subjects of worship objects and rituals in contemporary context which are core issues in Roi’s practice.

トムの作品はリサーチをベースとし、しばしば歴史的背景が博物館の文脈で構成、表現される。
近頃では、ギルバート ベイズ トラスト ポストグラジュエイト彫刻賞を受賞し、さらに第1次世界大戦におけるマン島の役割に関する彼女のプロジェクトを支援したマンアートカウンシルの助成を受賞。彼女の初の公共彫刻をマン島にある第一次世界大戦時のドイツ民間人収容キャンプの歴史地区に記念彫刻として設置された。
その他グラスゴー国際2018フェスティバルにて“ホリー・ウェーブ”を出展。 Maya Parnas（Beit Binyamini美術館、テルアビブ）がキュレーションする“Made in UK” を78 Derngate博物館（イギリス・ノーサンプトン）にて開催。 コミッションワークには、エディンバラArtlinkとのコラボレーションとして、エディンバラ王立小児科でアートワークショップを開催した。
Tom Krasny is an Israeli visual artist based in Glasgow, UK. Tom holds a Master of Fine Art degree from The Glasgow School of Art, from which she graduated with distinction, and a BA in video and new media from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design.
Her work is research-based and often involves reflecting on the way historical narratives are constructed and represented in museum contexts. Tom has recently installed her first public sculpture, on the historic area of Knockaloe WW1 internment camp on the Isle of Man, as a memorial sculpture to German civilians who were interned in the camp.
Tom is a recipient of The Gilbert Bayes Trust Postgraduate sculpture award, as well as a grantee of the Isle of Man Arts Council which supported her project relating to the Isle of Man’s role in WW1 internment. Recent exhibitions include: Holly Wave, as part of Glasgow International 2018 Festival’s across the city program. In Sequence, curated by Maya Parnas, Beit Binyamini, Tel Aviv. Made In UK, 78 Derngate museum, Northampton UK. Recent commissions include work in collaboration with Artlink, Edinburgh, to deliver Art workshops in wards of the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
